The
Maurice
Upperton
Foundation

Welcome to the Maurice Upperton Foundation website.  This is a new website, intended to give brief information on  what we are, what we do and how to contact us.  Later it will be expanded to provide relevant helpful information, and our views on how public and private bodies in the fields in which we operate could improve their service to the public.

Welcome
What we are

We are an educational charity, established under the Will of the late Maurice Upperton, who passed away in 1995.  Maurice was very much a self-made man who, starting from nothing, built up a considerable fortune during his lifetime. He had to struggle to educate himself in order to achieve this, and always believed that good education is the key to success in life, no matter how lowly a person’s station might be.

What we do

We exist to provide financial assistance to children and young people who have shown the talent, aptitude and commitment that will enable them to gain great benefit from first class education or training, yet are prevented from achieving this through lack of resources.  Please note, however, that this does not usually extend to emergency funding, or underwriting family finances for those already receiving such an education.  And in addition, we also wish to assist young people who can show appropriate skills, ideas and commitment in business, yet are restricted by lack of finance.

We should point out that we do not fund capital or general projects by other organisations or charities, as our funding is usually directed towards helping individuals, but we are always pleased to hear from other organisations if they are aware of individuals that might benefit from our assistance.

We take very considerable personal interest in the individuals we assist, which extends to mentoring if that is felt to be useful, and because of this the application process is necessarily detailed and thorough.  Nobody should be discouraged by this however, as we are very friendly!  Our objective is to help the star performers of tomorrow achieve their goals, and the more we can do this, the happier we shall be.
